va va whoa

happy 2009 and soon to be inauguration. what an exciting time for all of us to be witnessing and participating in.

it has been many moons since my last post but i hope to write more this year and with all that's happening. i've had a horrible track record with being consistent but hopefully 2009 is a different story.

while history is in the making with obama becoming president, there are some pretty big milestones happening in my life too.

in case you haven't heard, b and i are expecting! and yes, it was a surprise. i got the news after visiting the doctor last november for a nasty chest cold that wouldn't go away. turns out it was bronchitis and the doctor had me take a pregnancy test as a precautionary step before taking antibiotics. i was at the office and in my cube when she called and shared the news...

doctor: "hi y, the lab tests came back positive. congratulations - you're pregnant."

me: "what?"

doctor: "your pregnancy test that you took yesterday came back positive. we'll need you to come in and schedule an appointnment to see your OB. do you have one?"

me: "are you sure?"

doctor: "yes, we're very sure."

........pause... (yes, i am in shock here)

me: "wow. ok, i've got a gyn who i planned to have as my OB. i'll call her and make an appointment. she's in the network. thank you for letting us know!"

in the midst of that dialogue, i opened up a YIM window and looking for b, to let him know. not surprisingly, he was stunned silent... despite several "BUZZ" calls on the YIM chat box. for the first time since i've met him, i rendered him speechless. lol... :)

baby b (aka twinkle) arrives sometime in june (i'm at week 19), and we've been busily preparing for the arrival. we're excited, our families and friends are excited and given that this is our first child -- we're beyond nervous! our perspective has changed so much and it's affecting almost every aspect of our lives -- work, home, financial decisions, faith, and what not. it's amazing and also a little daunting but thankfully God has blessed us with a wonderful support network who can provide advice and guidance with navigating through parenthood.

in the midst of all this -- i've been adjusting to my body changing in all sorts of ways. one of the most surprising changes happened in my upper body. now, don't get me wrong -- i've been reading the pregnancy books and all my mommy girlfriends warned me about this (and other things that will weird me out). but i didn't expect the changes to happen so early on. i did notice my cleavage growing and thought "ok, that's normal." but i was in for a shock when i went shopping during the holiday break for maternitywear. when i got measured by the nordstrom sales associate -- i was floored by my new measurements. in 3 months, i grew what??? btw, what's the deal with those things changing color? and these are just a few of my observations! i've been warned there will be far more interesting things happening in the months to come.

the next big milestone for twinkle happens tomorrow -- we get our level II ultrasound where we find out how twinkle is growing and if s/he behaves, what gender twinkle will be. b and i have taken the day off and will be bringing my mom so she can see. she's super stoked because within 3 months of twinkle arriving, grandbaby #3 arrives too --- my nephew will soon have a little brother or sister! exciting times!

until the next post (and maybe then with some photos)...
